What is a paste? A paste is text that has usually been copied from somewhere else (copy-paste, get it?). A paste service is a website that offers free text hosting for texts that will usually exceed character limits such as the 2000 characters on Discord limit. This website requires no registration to be used and doesn't rely on a thousand frameworks which makes it not only easy to use but also fast and reliable. Pastes are stored temporarily and then are deleted (except for this paste, as it serves an example purpose). When is this useful? This is useful in a few examples: Someone is asking you for your crash logs and you are unable to attach said file or they do not trust downloading files. Someone's been asking for that one text you wrote for ages but character limits are bothering you and they want to easily read the text. You want to send some source code to someone but you cannot risk putting such code temporarily public. You want to send some source code to someone but you are unable to do so, either because of character limits or chat formatting. Will this ever have an API? As of 1 December 2024 i have a few plans to bring a simple API for reading and creating of pastes, however I am certainly not in a rush to do so. If this is a feature that's wanted, you are free to ask me about it. Maybe i forgot. Alzheimer's not unknown to me :c How long are pastes stored? They're stored until 00:00 GMT+2/3. If you're unlucky, the paste might get deleted after 20 minutes. If you are unable to see a paste, it unfortunately means it has been deleted. Nothing that i can do, as they're effectively wiped and they are not being logged anywhere. Normally, i should delete them 24 hours after creation, however I have yet to find a convenient way to do so. I am also not in a rush to fix this and in most cases it shouldn't be a problem. Will there ever be permanent pastes? I have disabled support for permanent pastes or timed pastes due to a few personal reasons which i will not disclose. You are more than free to ask me for this feature. Maybe i will add it, but this project in its current state requires no moderation and it's generally safer. You mentioned limits. What are the character limits? The paste must not exceed 120k characters and the title of the paste must not exceed 40 characters. The limits are more than enough for most types of pastes. A person should not be limited by such limits in normal and fair usage. How much storage does a paste take? Not much. A 120k character paste will take at most 478.07 KB of storage space. Less than half of a megabyte. The storage is not what i am concerned about regarding permanent pastes, don't worry about that. In fact, this paste weighs around 4kbs and has 3690 characters. You'd probably expect it to have more, but no. This paste can even be stored on the world's first storage medium. I'm talking the ones made back in around 1960, i don't exactly remember the year but around that time. Fascinating, isn't it? To see that a screenshot can be taking more storage space than pure information. This should tell you that maybe Wikipedia doesn't actually need the donations after all. They're mostly storing text and they've got unpaid editors do the work. Sure, it's a nice website to use, but the articles wrote on it are written by volunteers that have no profit doing so. You should really appreciate the community of editors instead. I have a suggestion! Visit my main page of the website: https://wreeper.top/ I have more than likely left contact options there. I am not that hard to reach, so just.. suggest me. Tell me. I am willing to know what you've been thinking of. Have a nice day/night!
